Use a fine small silk handkerchief, between the joint andthumb and forefinger of left hand conceal a small piece of the samesilk rolled up in a ball. Roll up your sleeves, show hands empty, havehandkerchief examined and taking it between the hand roll it up into aball which you pretend to pass into left hand, but really palming it inright. Let silk at rear of thumb expand in left hand, letting audiencesee it, they are now sure that the handkerchief is really there;meanwhile you get rid of the handkerchief proper. BurlingameNext|Previous|ContentsSoup Plate and HandkerchiefThe handkerchief is rolled up very small and is held between the soupplate and hand, while the performer is calling attention to the plate.When in the act of laying the plate down, under cover of the plate dropthe handkerchief. Vanish as follows: A small ball of any suitablematerial about an inch in diameter and with an opening on one side ofit about half an inch in diameter is attached to a wire loop. This loop isslipped over the thumb of the left hand. Performer takes a small silkhandkerchief and works it into the hollow ball and under cover of theright hand slips the rubber ball over the hand and allows it to hangdown at the back of left hand. Palms of both hands can now be shownempty, performer picks up soup plate in his left hand and exhibits theduplicate handkerchief underneath and holds soup plate in his lefthandk and under cover of the plate drops the handkerchief andvanisher on servante and carelessly calls attention to the back of thehands.
